I was also left wondering if I wasn't the beneficiary of a pricing mistake, because the local guy was truly baffled at the pricing I shared with him. My local Home Depot gave me an estimate for Kraftmaid cabinets that is $4K more than an independent seller in a region with lower income, for the exact same configuration. Apparently that applies discounts for volume orders. As seen in the transitional styling trend, cabinets need not be uniform throughout a kitchen.
