I roll the fabric around it, pull out the ruler then fold that length to what size I want, either in half or fat quarter size. Artwork that directly touches glass can lead to heartbreak, because the inks can stick to the glass over time and absolutely ruin it, or moisture can get in and make those obnoxious bubbles like you get when moisture gets under a screen protector in a phone, and also ruin it.
